Tbilisi, February 12, 2024. With the support of the United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF) a new initiative has launched at the Elizbar Eristavi Energy Training Center existing under the Georgian National Energy and Water Supply Regulatory Commission (GNERC), within the framework of which school students from different regions of Georgia will raise awareness on the role of renewable energy in tackling the problems of climate change and air pollution.
The initiative aims at raising the level of awareness of youth on renewable energy, climate change and air pollution problems and promoting the acquisition of relevant knowledge and development of problem-solving skills.
The project will be implemented across the municipalities of Samegrelo-Zemo-Svaneti, Guria, and Imereti regions, benefiting around 500 students from 35 schools. Within the framework of the project, trainings and public lectures will be provided to youth. The duration of the project is 8 months.
It is noteworthy that in 2022, with the support of the UNICEF, the project "Raising Awareness of Youth of the Regions on Drinking Water Quality and Water Resources" was implemented at the Energy Training Center. As a result of the project, more than 300 young people from the regions of Georgia acquired knowledge regarding the preservation and protection of water resources, energy efficiency and energy saving.
